Yesterday, I attended a brilliant webinar on “Applying Career Construction Theory in Practice” by the amazing Kevin Glavin PhD, LPC<\/a>, hosted by The Career Industry Council of Australia (Inc)<\/a>, that addressed just how powerful personal narratives can be!

\u2728Here are my top three takeaway treasures\u2728

1\ufe0f\u20e3 Kevin eloquently highlighted how career theory has evolved in line with the changing world of work, from Holland\u2019s scoring approach, to Super\u2019s stages, and finally to Savickas\u2019 storytelling framework, the heart of the career construction interview.

2\ufe0f\u20e3 Using short, personal narratives to reveal the uniqueness of an individual, Kevin demonstrated how this can tell us who they are, where they\u2019ve been, and where they want to go. Stories aren\u2019t just anecdotes; they\u2019re insights.\ud83d\udd0d

3\ufe0f\u20e3 Addressing the adaptability of career construction across cultures, Kevin mentioned that while there is space for cultural nuance, storytelling itself is embraced by all cultures – everyone has a story. \ud83c\udf0d

I first discovered this approach many years ago and immediately embraced narrative storytelling techniques, which transformed my practice. Last year, I dove into Kevin\u2019s Career Construction Masterclass Fundamentals Online. It taught both the theory and the human connection at the centre of every session. Each question in the Career Construction Interview gives way to real, genuine conversations, and Kevin\u2019s teaching brought deeper clarity and resonance to how I guide clients.
